Abstract
Meige syndrome is a rare form of segmental dystonia characterized by blepharospasm, oromandibular dystonia, and often cervical dystonia. Bilateral deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the globus pallidus internus (GPi) is known to be effective for the treatment of generalized and segmental dystonia. Here, we report a case of Meige syndrome was satisfactorily controlled by unilateral stimulation of the left GPi after the removal of a right-side implantable pulse generator because of infection. She previously received long-term bilateral pallidal stimulation with marked improvement in symptoms. Meige syndrome showing good improvement after bilateral GPi-DBS may also respond well to unilateral stimulation.
Key Words: Meige syndrome, Deep brain stimulation, The globus pallidus internus (GPi).
