Diffusion Tensor Imaging Characterization of Radiation-Induced white Matter Changes Resulting from Stereotactic Radiosurgery |

Abstract |
Objective we present our initial experience with using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to quantify the extent of radiation-induced
white matter injury after stereotatic radiosurgery (SRS).
Materials and Methods: Fourteen Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) patients were enrolled in this study. The apparent diffusion
coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA)values for each region of interest (ROI) were measured and compared between
the tumoral regions, regions irradiated with ≥12Gy, and normal regions for each patient.
Results In the tumoral regions, the ADC values showed an 8.3% increase (p=0.234) and the FA values decreased by 2.7%
(p=0.734) as compared to before SRS. In the ≥12Gy regions, the ADC values after SRS gave 2.3% increment value (p=0.129)
and there was a 1.6% reduction in FA values (p=0.734).
Conclusion We found no differences in the ADC and FA scores for the non-irradiated white matter regions, and only a small percentage change in the white matter ADC and FA scores detected with DTI analysis. |
